FAMILY

My Hubby
I was blessed to be adopted by wonderful parents—Catherine and Thomas Scott—whom I miss dearly. But fortunately, my Dad lived long enough to meet (and approve of!) my husband Jason—the love of my life who I met nearly 20 years ago while working at Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio. He surprised me with a date invite via company mail…and then surprised me even more when he picked me up on a scooter. He has never stopped surprising me or making me laugh which is one of the many qualities I love about him. Interestingly, I knew he was “the one” when he admitted that “Hart to Hart” was his favorite television show (remember the show from the 80’s with Jonathan and Jennifer Hart—a husband and wife team that went on fabulous adventures around the world?). He too, wanted to live “Hart to Hart style” and live an extraordinary life – so this was a match made in heaven. He enthusiastically supports all of my endeavors— whether they are business, my charity, or deciding to participate in a reality show. Now, that’s a true partner!
Jason has an effervescent personality that attracts people to him – which is likely why he has had a successful career in sales. Currently, he is the co-founder of a project management and logistic firm—The TPM Group (www.tpmgroupdc.com). His mind is always working in creative ways. So much so that he is also an inventor with a patent on a volumetric scale that measures various body parts. Call me biased—but I think Jason is brilliant. He has developed a revolutionary unit of measurement that will allow for customization of anything that goes on the body. More to come about this…….
My Kids
Every day I worry about being a good mom to Jacob and Catherine -- ensuring they have a proper school, life and education, teaching them to be kind and respectful to all people and encouraging them to explore their talents and dreams to the fullest. They give me so much joy, laughter and more love than I knew existed. I never feel I am doing enough for them but I know every mother out there feels the same. They make me laugh and help me notice and appreciate the seemingly little things in life that are so beautiful—like butterflies (Catherine’s favorite).
My Extended Family
In Episode 2, you met my extended family. Aunt Frances is my godmother, my mom’s best friend and the woman that stepped in when she died to help raise me. Her daughter Stephanie was my babysitter—and her granddaughters, Kellie and Nikki, are my sisters. Aunt Frances (and clan) were always there for me for every milestone in my life; and every Sunday growing up, Dad and I had dinner at Aunt Frances' house. I looked forward to the laughing, bickering, and good eating every week. And to this day, my family goes to Aunt Frances' house whenever possible.
My Birth Family
In the show, viewers got a glimpse of my personal journey to find my birth parents—who I discover to be Caucasian and Nigerian. I am eternally grateful to my birthmother for her selfless act of love—giving me up for adoption to my loving and wonderful parents, Catherine and Thomas Scott. Both are deceased now. And it was only after discovering a medical need to know my medical history that I embarked on a journey to find my biological parents. Long, long story short… I have found both. I respect my birthmother’s desire to maintain her privacy and not have a relationship. However, I am overwhelmed and thrilled to have found a welcoming family in Nigeria—Papa, 10 siblings and a huge extended family --- who I met in a January "homecoming".
